The 2010 Kenton County Government Academy is off to a great Start!!! We are going into our 4th week of the 12 week Academy. We will update and add photos each week!

As an outgrowth of the Kenton County Attorney’s Local Legal Lecture
series and an outreach service to the constituents of Kenton County, citizens are invited to take an inside look into the workings of their county government by participating in the Kenton County Government Academy.
Beginning February 16th, this twelve week course will educate those involved about all facets of county government. Participants will meet once a week for 3 hours with county and city leaders through site visits and other hands on opportunities - learning operations from behind the scenes.
“Our goal is to continue a process where the average citizen will have a clear
understanding of local government functions and why things work the way they do,” said Kenton County Attorney Garry Edmondson. “As legal counsel for various local government entities for the past thirty-six years, I recognize that the public, in general, has little understanding of governmental processes. This program aims to change that.”
Some of the topics and visits will include: fiscal court, judicial government, budgeting, public works, area planning and development, public schools, animal shelter, and much more.
While most classes will be conducted in a central location, others will be held at various “on site” locations. Participants must have their own form of transportation to the class site. All classes begin at 6:00 p.m.
Citizens involved in this course will become familiar with the big picture of government related issues in Kenton County; all the while fostering potential community leaders by equipping them with essential information to share with friends, relatives, and neighbors. Over 35 Kenton County residents have graduated from this program since its conception. While all have gained valuable knowledge, some have gone on to become council and committee members, volunteers, and leaders within their own communities.
Registration for next years Academy will begin January 2010
We have a full class for 2010 but welcome others to sign up for next year if you didn't have a chance to get in this years class. We begin Feb. 15th and are very excited about another fun and exciting 12 weeks! Please contact our office with any questions. (sstraw@kentoncoatty.com or 859-491-0600)
